We visited the Poke Time food truck on a Wednesday night, looking to have a quick after-work feed and try out the latest food trend to spread across Melbourne. The truck changes location every week so make sure you check their Facebook and Instagram pages so you know where to go!
We got the Aloha bowl with Salmon and also the K-Beast from the truck’s secret menu!
Apart from salmon sashimi cubes, the Aloha bowl came with an awesome Shoyu dressing and all the trimmings – onion, cucumber, raddish, spring onion, sesame seeds, togerashi and fried shallots. We chose edamame beans and seaweed salad as out extras. It tasted awesome, with the dressing nicely complementing the fresh salmon and the zing of the sushi rice and the greenery balancing out the richness of the salmon and the sauce.
As for the K-Beast, well, safe to say the ‘beast’ part of the dish’s name was well earnt. Between the two of us we barely managed to polish it off. Inside the two chicken fillets that acted as the bun was some salmon sashimi cubes (of course), a tangy spicy mayo, crab salad, seaweed, cheese, tobiko and topped off with a takoyaki skewer. The chicken was deliciously juicy and the panko crumb gave it a nice textured coating. The spiciness of the mayo cut through well and the range of ingredients provided a nice range of textures.
Overall, we really enjoyed these dishes and the team was also super friendly, taking the time to come and interact with the customers. The weather was also nice and warm on the night we went which made for a great al fresco dining experience!
