The Glass Den is a Coburg cafe that does the most exquisite and #madeforinstagram brunch dishes that I have ever seen so we were keen to visit and try it out. The cafe gets very busy on weekends but luckily we had a weekday free so we took advantage of the opportunity!
For a drink, I ordered the Taro Latte. I found it to be authentic and full of sweet taro flavour. They also have a great range of different coffees and smoothies. Plus, it was super purple and cute!
We then ordered the Rocky Road Garden and the Matcha burger. The Rocky Road Garden consisted of cubes of brioche french toast, with artisan raspberry white chocolate ice cream, marshmallow nibs, freeze dried strawberry, matcha soil, candied almond, chocolate ganache, citrus meringue, fruit caviar and burnt marshmallows. It was the most complex french toast that I have ever tasted! All the elements of the dish came together nicely, the increased surface area of the panko crumbed french toast cubes made for greater level of crunchiness than most other fresh toasts that I’ve previously had. Fair warning though, this dish is really rich so we each had half of this and half of the savoury Matcha burger.
This burger consisted of a mac and cheese croquette, double smoked sous vide ham hock, baby spinach, Swiss cheese and a sunny side up fried egg and cheddar flavoured matcha crumb nestled inside a matcha bun. It tasted delicious, the rich croquette was a decadent touch and complemented the ham and egg.
Overall, this is a great cafe that serves beautifully plated and creative brunch dishes, definitely worth trying out!
