Axil is best known for their coffee that is used in their coffee only city outlets and in a cafes they wholesale to. However, they also serve up some great brunch fare at their full cafe locations. In this post we’ll share one saturday brunch experience.
The first dish that we ordered was the red velvet pancakes which came served with raspberries, a scoop of black sesame ice cream, a cream cheese sauce, ganache and which is then liberally sprinkled with chocolate brownie soil. This dish is a must for lovers of sweet dishes. It combines the fluffiness of the red velvet pancakes with the richness of the ice-cream and the cream cheese with the raspberries adding the right amount of tartness to balance out the dish.
The second dish we ordered was the zucchini, corn and haloumi fritters that were topped with sauteed spinach, two eggs and dressed with coriander and a hazelnut dukkah. This dish is perfect for those looking for a hearty vego dish. The fritters are crispy and are topped with halloumi which adds a nice bite. The crunch contrasts well with the soft mildness of the spinach and the yolk from the eggs adds the perfect richness to the dish.
Overall, Axil is definitely worth a visit if you live in the south eastern suburbs. The cafe food is great and it goes without saying, but the coffee is also excellent!
