Speedos is a North Bondi cafe right by the beach offering sea views and a casual vibe serving healthy brunch dishes. We visited this cafe on a nice summer’s day on a day out at the beach and the cafe was packed, the line was so long that we had to wait for half an hour before being seated at the wooden stools near the window, which made for some great people watching.
We ordered three dishes to share, the first was their famous Coconut Chia Pot with cocowhip, blueberry, strawberry, melon and veganola. This is a completely vegan dish and really delicious, the cocowhip was so fresh and light and full of coconut flavour, nicely balanced out by the fresh fruit and the crunchy veganola.
The second dish we ordered was the “Lifesaver” smoked salmon with cream cheese, avocado and lemon on turkish toast. This was a simple but tasty plate, the smoked salmon went well with the cream cheese and avocado, while the lemon gave it some zest.
We also got the Pulled Pork and Quinoa Bowl with zucchini noodles, smoked almonds, pomegranate, roquette, yoghurt and mint. This gluten free dish was so nutritious and healthy, I really enjoyed the zucchini noodles and sweet pomegranate flavour, contrasted nicely by the tartness of the yoghurt, topped off refreshing mint.
To balance out ordering two healthy dishes, we decided to then indulge ourselves on the Speedos donuts; they had a range of flavours including Reese’s peanut butter, malteser, M&Ms and strawberry and nutella. These donuts looked insane and after much umming and ahhing, we decided on the Reese’s peanut butter donut with nutella syringe. This was one of the most indulgent donuts I have tried at a cafe, it was strong in peanut butter flavour and once you added the nutella sauce, became ridiculously rich. A delicious donut that we barely managed to finish between the both of us.
Overall, Speedos is an aptly named cafe in Bondi Beach that is perfect for a brunch before a lazy day at the beach. I would definitely come back to try some of the other dishes on the menu!
