Industry Beans is a favourite of Fitzroy brunch hunters and Melbourne Uni students alike. Serving up quality coffee and excellent brunch dishes, it’s not hard to see why! Industry beans was a regular haunt of mine during uni days, and this post will cover our latest trip there with a few friends.
The first dish we ordered was the crispy beans and quinoa. These crispy black beans came topped with a poached egg and mixed in with chilli pickle, avo, tomato, puffed grains and sat on a bed of quinoa. This was a super interesting dish – I’ve never had beans in this way before! They were crispy and airy which contrasted with the heavy richness of the avo.
The second dish we ordered was the karaage chicken burger. You may have noticed a bit of a trend – we love our fried chicken! The fried karaage chicken was partnered up with pickled tomato, buffalo cream cheese and tucked inside a brioche bun. The chicken was perfectly juicy, yet the outside was nice and crisp which meant each bite started with a crunch that unleashed a wave of juicy chicken goodness – is there any better sensation!?
The third dish we ordered was the egg, asparagus, zucchini flowers, and zucchini slices on a bed of crumble. This dish was beautifully plated, the flowers added a nice touch and the truffle aroma was allowed to stand out among the other more mild ingredients.
The fourth dish we ordered was the breakfast platter.. The first was the polenta chips which were nice and crispy and served with aioli. The second snack were little crab cakes topped with a chilli jam. These little bundles of joy were nice and hot and given a kick by the chilli jam. The third snack was a trout tartare that was topped with an avocado mousse. The tartare was perfectly seasoned and the mousse provided a lightness that elevated the dish.
Overall, this was a very enjoyable dining experience. The food is excellent and the dishes have a bit of a twist to keep things interesting and a cut above your everyday cafe. Oh, and did I mention the coffee is excellent?
