Orto Trading Co is a Surry Hills cafe serving inventing breakfast and lunch dishes in a rustic-chic space with a funky outdoor courtyard. This cafe has been a mainstay on the Sydney brunch scene for years, offering a menu with great food and a spacious modern interior. We came here for lunch on a weekend one day with a friend and will share with you our experience.
We ordered four dishes, the first dish was the potato hash with asparagus, rocket, avocado, ham and tomato. This was a solid dish, the potato hash was nice and crispy, and went well with the ham and creamy avocado, whole the asparagus gave it a nice crunch. However, I did not enjoy the rocket (surprise surprise!).
The second dish we ordered was the smoked salmon bruschetta with fennel, snow pea tendrils, lemon yoghurt and poached egg. This was a delicious dish, the smoked salmon was delicious and went well with the lemon yoghurt, which added creamy tartness to the dish, while the fennel and snow peas also added a great texture.
The third dish we ordered was the ATB with avocado, tomato and basil on sourdough toast. This was a standard cafe dish done well, the tomato was really refreshing while the basil gave it a great flavour.
Then, because we weren’t quite satisfied, we decided to order their southern fried chicken benny with english muffin, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. This was my favourite dish of the whole day, the fried chicken was so crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside and went perfectly with the hollandaise sauce. Love the unique take on the classic eggs benedict dish!
Overall, Orto Trading Co is a great cafe in Surry Hills serving a range of both standard and classic breakfast and lunch options. While nothing on the menu is extremely creative or pushes boundaries, the food there is enjoyable and reliable.
