Passiontree Velvet is a teahouse and patisserie chain serving a range of cakes, high teas and desserts. I visited the Macquarie store to celebrate a friends birthday and ordered the Duchess full high tea which at $35, is very affordably priced compared to normal high teas that start from $50pp which is their flagship high tea and includes a tea or coffee, a selection of ribbon finger sandwiches, home baked English scones served with jam and cream and the miniature version of some of their most popular desserts and cakes.
To start off with we ordered our drinks, a range of tea and coffees. They were delicious, I got the iced chocolate with ice cream and it came deconstructed, where you could control how much hot chocolate you pour into the ice cream on ice which was always a fun thing to do!
We then got served our high teas. We started with the finger sandwich, which included cucumber, smoked salmon, ham and egg. We also ordered a side of fresh strawberries and a ham and cheese baguette with a side of salad. We then had the scones, which were light and fluffy and went well with the jam and cream.
However, I was most excited to try the four desserts we were served. The first one was the chocolate brownie, this was rich and moist and full of cocoa flavour. The second was my favourite, the raspberry cheesecake which had an adorable raspberry macaron on top. This was so rich and creamy, I really enjoyed how the tartness of the raspberry contrasted the sweet cheesecake. The third was the pistachio and chocolate eclair, which was another great mix of flavours, you could really taste the nutty pistachio. The last was the lemon meringue tart, which was also delicious, the sweet meringue was perfectly balanced by the zesty lemon.
Overall, Passiontree Velvet is a great place to have high tea, with affordable prices and a great selection of delicate sweet and savoury treats on offer!
