Adriano Zumbo, is probably Australia’s most recognisable dessert and pastry king, known for his macaron tower that starred on Masterchef years ago. Since then, he has expanded his stores from Sydney to Melbourne and being huge fans, we have visited this store many times for a variety of occasions and treats and will share them in this post.
The Passionfruit tart
This is a signature Zumbo dessert, with a pate friable base, passionfruit curd with a striking red and yellow airbrush finish. Delicious and tangy, I also really enjoyed how light it was and the strong passionfruit flavour.
This is an incredibly intricate cake that our friend got for her birthday, with hazelnut sable sandwiching vanilla creme fraiche mousse, pineapple cream with pineapple pieces, raspberry gel, biscuit cuiller and fresh raspberries. This was also delicious, I really enjoyed the creamy vanilla mousse and nutty flavour of the hazelnut sable, while the pineapple cream and raspberry gel added a nice tartness to cake, with the biscuit base adding a crunch.
V8 Vanilla Cake
This the OG of all Zumbo V8 cakes, and while I have tried a fair few, this one is still my favourite. We got this for my dad’s birthday, it contains 8 layers of vanilla; vanilla chantilly, brûlée, water gel, macaron, almond crunch, dacquoise, ganache and glaze. The different textures and vanilla flavour combined together perfectly, my favourite layer was probably the almond crunch, althought every layer in this cake adds a unique texture and it’s hard to say what stands out the most. We have also tried this in the individual serving size.
V8 Diesel cake
We got an individual small V8 diesel cake, this is the chocolate version of the V8 vanilla cake with 8 layers of chocolate: Flourless chocolate, Chocolate crunch, burnt brulee, Chocolate macaron, Chocolate jelly, Chocolate creamaux, Chocolate chantilly and chocolate glaze.
Zumbarons and Zonuts
We have also tried their zumbarons and donuts, ordering the salted caramel, peanut butter, rose, lychee, chocolate brownie and red velvet macarons as well as the pistachio and cookies and cream zonuts. These were delicious, the macarons were so fresh and full of flavour, while the zonuts were filled with light cream and the pastry was crispy on the outside.
Overall, Adriano Zumbo is the perfect place for either a sneaky dessert or afternoon treat and also has a range of cakes perfect for special occasions. Will definitely be coming back to try his constant new inventions!
