Originals Burger Co is a American style burger diner located in Brookvale, in Sydney’s Northern Beaches. It was opened by a group of three friends, two from Manly and one from Bondi who put aside the traditional northern beaches versus eastern suburbs rivalry and worked together to bring delicious burgers to Brookvale.
We came here for lunch on a Saturday, eager to see what the fuss was all about. It was lucky we came earlier at noon because by 12:30pm the place was fully packed. I really like the Rustic American diner feel of Originals and when you walk in you will be greeted with a tantalising display of cookies and doughnuts to go along side your burgers and fries.
We ordered two burgers, the first was the Chilli burger with free range grass fed beef, cheese, pickles, house made hot sauce and jalapenos. The beef patty was nice but the sauce was too spicy for me, but my dining partner told me he enjoyed it, the hot sauce and jalapenos definitely added a great kick to the burger.
The second burger we ordered was their Monthly Guest burger; Uncle Frank’s Philly Cheese Steak with beef brisket, OG Pattie, fried onions, chilli, Pepper Jack cheese sauce, cheese, pickles on an originals bun. Chef Josh Franco’s love of the philly cheese steak has shaped the creation of his version of the classic Philly dish into a burger and it was a sight to behold, we had to deconstruct it in order to eat it! The beef brisket had been cooked for 15 hours and was incredibly juicy and tender, while the fried onions and cheese sauce was rich and added texture to the fluffy bun.
We also ordered a 4 pack of the BBQ maple wings; free range chicken with OG’s spice, BBQ sauce and OG’s house dressing. This was another great dish, the honey maple soy glaze was so addictive, it had the perfect balance between sweet and savoury.
Finally, we ordered the Loaded Originals Fries; crunchy fries loaded with shallots, bacon, American cheese, gravy and OG’s house dressing. This was another incredibly decadent and rich dish that was generous with the toppings. However, we found this a tad too salty and struggled to finish it.
Overall, the Originals Burger Co is a great American style burger diner with a friendly and relaxed ambiance and high quality food at reasonable prices. It is clear the owners love what they do and are passionate about the menu they have created. Definitely worth checking out if you are a burger lover!
