Brighton Soul is a cafe in Brighton, a suburb famous for its beach, trendy designer shops and now, it should be for a cafe that serves one of the most creative and interesting menus I have ever come across. I could not resist making the most of the great weather and popping by after a relaxing day at the beach.
To start off with, we ordered the Matcha Japanese Pancakes with homemade charcoal and lemon ice cream, raspberry coulis, macadamias, chocolate soil, berries and grilled pineapple skewer. This was a delicious dish, the pancakes were dense and had just the right amount of matcha flavour, and the charcoal ice cream was definitely the most unique ice cream I have ever tasted, be sure to rinse your mouth afterwards though!
We also ordered the Superfood granola with pandan and vanilla bean panna cotta, mango coulis, goji berries, mixed seeds and nuts, berries, passionfruit and almond matcha. I am a huge fan of panna cotta and this did not disappoint, the pandan and vanilla flavour was strong and made for a lovely creamy flavour. I also really enjoyed the crunchy granola mix and fresh fruit.
For our savoury dish, we could not go past the deconstructed sushi- seared sesame encrusted yellowfin tuna with forbidden black rice, avocado and yuzu mousse, pickled ginger, fresh carrot and cucumber, soy reduction, nori and wasabi vinaigrette. The tuna was so fresh and tender and I really enjoyed the texture of the black rice, which made for a healthy dish and the avocado and yuzu mousse was nice and creamy, contrasted well by the pickled ginger.
For our drinks we ordered the Going green smoothie with kale, spinach, avocado, granny smith, mango, flaxseed, dates, green algae, coconut water and Jump start with strawberries, raspberries, goji berries, watermelon, banana, chia seeds, coconut water. Both were vegan and tasted healthy but also refreshing and delicious, definitely making sure I have enough vitamins on a hot spring day!
Overall, Brighton Soul is a must visit cafe in brighton with a selection of beautiful and delicious breakfast and lunch dishes. Their cafe is also dog friendly, with a nice courtyard in the back offering outdoor seating. Come try their breakfast dishes, you wont regret it!
