The Butcher’s Block is a cosy cafe situated near the train station in Wahroonga, a stone’s throw away from where I used to go to high school. I have since been back here a couple of times to catch up with friends and will share my experience in this post.
On the first occasion, we ordered a few dishes to share. The first dish was the chicken burger with chicken breast, avocado, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise and a side of chips. This was a delicious burger, I really enjoyed how tender and well marinated the chicken was and the avocado and mayo were both nice and creamy. We also ordered the fish and chips with a side of salad, this was also tasty, the fish was nicely beer battered and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Finally, we ordered a freshly baked meat pie from the bakery and I could taste the real mince meat in it, not just god knows what you eat from frozen pies at take away shops.
On the second occasion, we ordered three dishes to share as well. The first dish was the quinoa salad with pumpkin, feta, rocket, green leaves and sourdough bread. This was a delicious vegetarian dish, the pumpkin was nicely roasted and tender and the feta gave a great kick to the dish, while the quinoa was full of flavour and very filling. The second dish was the chicken and cherry tomato salad, I also enjoyed this dish, the chicken was full of flavour and fresh and went well with the sweet cherry tomatoes and balsamic dressing. The third dish was the chorizo and prawn pasta. This was my favourite dish, both the chorizo and prawn was well cooked and delicious and the pasta sauce was quite simple, allowing the other ingredients to stand out and I thought the serving was quite generous.
Overall, The Butcher’s block is a great local cafe in Wahroonga that serves a large range of brunch and lunch dishes and is worth checking out if you are nearby or ever in the area!
