Shanghai Street is a casual Chinese restaurant specialising in Shanghai cuisine in the Melbourne CBD. We were craving dumplings and rice one night and decided to order some to takeaway and eat at home. Being from Shanghai originally, I definitely have high standards for Shanghai food and this restaurant did not disappoint!
We ordered the signature Shanghai dish, Home made steamed Xiao Long Bao with crab and pork. These were delicious and full of generous pork and crab meat, carefully eating it so that the soup does not leak out of the bun. The crab meat was a nice addition to the traditional pork bun.
We also ordered the Pork and prawn dumpling in chilli oil with peanut and sesame butter sauce. This is another one of my favourite Shanghainese dishes, the chilli oil added a great kick while the peanut and sesame sauce added great flavour to the juicy dumplings.
For our main, we shared the fried rice with ham and vegetables. This is another classic Chinese dish and you can never go wrong with fried rice, we enjoyed the generous portion and ingredients.
Overall, Shanghai street is a value for money and authentic Chinese restaurant in Melbourne, it is perfect for a casual feed with friends that does not break the bank! Definitely order the Xiao Long Bao if you go, it’s a signature dish that is done perfectly here.
