Situated near camberwell station, Collective espresso has become a mainstay on the Camberwell brunch scene, serving a range of breakfast and lunch dishes. We came here for brunch one weekend, keen to try their dishes.
To start off with, we ordered their Defying gravity waffles with vanilla and white chocolate, whipped cream, kiwi fruit, strawberries and salted caramel popcorn. This is probably one of the most inventive waffle dishes I have ever tried, I loved the creamy vanilla and white chocolate, nicely balanced out by the fruit. The salted caramel popcorn was also a standout.
Next we ordered the Sweet corn and zucchini fritters- with cumin, poached egg, sliced avo, whipped goats cheese, lemon grass and chutney. This was a solid dish, the fritters are more dense than the usual ones I have tried at cafes and the whipped goats cheese and chutney add good flavour to the dish.
Our third dish was the Crab and cotechino benny- with crumbed crab croquettes, Italian sausage, wilted spinach, poached egg and hollandaise. This was a delicious dish, the crumbed crab croquettes were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside and I loved the Italian sausage and perfectly poached egg.
Overall, this is a great cafe that serves a range of creative and well cooked dishes, the service was friendly and the food came first, would definitely recommend you to try if you are in the area!
