Meat and Wine Co is a steakhouse and restaurant chain that specialises in serving high quality Monte beef that are paired with Australia’s best wines, showcasing the best of Australian cuisine. We went to the brand new Barangaroo restaurant for a work team dinner, keen to try out their famous steaks.
We arrived 10 minutes until Happy Hour was over and ordered their aptly named Love Potion cocktail; made with muddled strawberries, Belvedere vodka, suntory rubis and Cointreau shaken with pineapple juice and layered with Mozart Chocolate liqueur. This was a delicious cocktail, rich and fruity with a hint of chocolate flavour, the perfect drink to whet our appetites!
For our main, we ordered the Monte Beef – Grass Fed 120D – New York Steak that came with a side of chips or salad. I chose the chips and also got a mushroom sauce to go with it. This was a delicious steak, I chose to have it cooked medium rare and it was perfectly a little pink inside and so tender and juicy. The chips were nice and crunchy and the mushroom sauce was rich and creamy, going perfectly with the steak.
For dessert, we ordered their Grand Finale dessert platter to share which contained a selection of their most popular desserts the Chocolate & Hazelnut Fondant, Creme Brulee, Apple Pie and Amaretto Frangipane. The chocolate fondant was served warm and I loved cutting into the cake revealing the ganache inside that oozed out, it was so rich and delicious. In contrast, the creme brulee was light and creamy with great vanilla flavour and a crunchy top that was my favourite. This also was served with a shortbread and cute little meringues on top, which was a nice touch. The apple pie was nice and crispy and served hot and the amaretto frangipane contained Amaretto cherries, cherry crisps, crème fraiche on a Frangipane and poppy seed cake. It was the most interesting dessert, the cherries added a nice tartness to the dish while the poppy seed cake was nice and spongey.
Overall, Meat and Wine Co is a great high quality and casual restaurant that serves an extensive menu that is not just limited to steak, they also do skewers, ribs and seafood. The ambiance was nice and the service was good, this is a place that I would definitely go back next time to try some of their other dishes!
