Chefs Gallery is a Chinese restaurant with a series of stores in the CBD and Macquarie. They recently opened up a new yum cha chain in Wynyard and we came here for a lunch with colleagues eager to dig into their dumplings, noodles and rice dishes.
To start off, we ordered their Jumbo prawn wonton dumplings. The meat in here was generous and the broth was light and went well with the dumplings.
Next we ordered the Singapore stir fry noodles with meat and vegetables. This is one of my favourite noodle dishes, it was full of flavour and I enjoyed the toppings.
Next we ordered the Chicken and Prawn shui mai. I love a good shui mai and this did not disappoint, the chicken and prawn was tender and well cooked.
Next we could not go past the Xiao Long Bao. This was again well cooked, the soup in the bao was in tact (as long as you pick it up carefully) and went perfectly with vinegar and soy sauce. I also loved how thin the pastry was. We also got some Custard buns for dessert, I loved the rich custard flavour and the soft pillowy buns.
Next we got the Mixed vegetable dumplings. I am not a huge fan of vegetarian dumplings as I found these to be a bit bland but they are a healthy option.
We ordered one rice dish, the Steamed chicken, chinese pork sausage and mushroom rice dish. I loved this dish, the steamed chicken and pork sausage added great flavour to the rice, and it was topped with chinese vegetable so it was healthy too.
Lastly, we ordered the Egg noodle wok fried with shredded bbq pork. The noodles had an interesting curry flavour that was different to the singaporean noodles and I enjoyed the bbq pork.
Overall, Chef’s Gallery is a great yum cha restaurant in the CBD, perfect for when you want your dumplings fix. It is casual and well priced, and the food came really quickly, definitely check it out if you haven’t been already!
