Hawk and Hunter is a cafe in Ripponlea/Elsternwick area. It is rebranding and will soon launch as Turning Point, serving a range of great brunch and lunch dishes, we decided to check it out one weekend.
To start, we ordered the Prana loose leaf chai latte and breakfast smoothie with banana, berries, oats, almond milk, cinnamon and pea protein. I really enjoyed the cinnamon flavour of the chai and the smoothie was delicious too, it had great mix of ingredients was not too heavy or sweet.
We then ordered three dishes to share. The first was the Vanilla and ricotta hotcake with sweet potato hotcake, with walnut and pistachio crumble, spiced caramel and poppy seed cream. This is one of my favourite hotcakes, it was unique and different. I loved the sweet potato filling and the poppy seed cream was not too heavy while the hotcake itself was light and fluffy.
We also ordered the Crab croquette on parmesan foam with marinated asparagus, smoked paprika mayo and poached egg. I really enjoyed this dish too, the croquette was well cooked and you could really taste the crab and the paprika mayo added good flavour.
Finally we tried the Mushrooms and truffled polenta; slow cooked mushrooms on sourdough with crispy polenta and trufflenaise with a side of chorizo. I love well cooked mushrooms and this dish was delicious, the trufflenaise added great flavour and the polenta was an interesting element that was nice and crunchy.
Overall, Hawk and Hunter is an underrated gem in the area that deserves to be checked out, I think the plating of the dishes could be improved but they served food that was definitely delicious and well cooked.
