Zona Azzurri is a new Italian restaurant located in Alexandria. Set up in a large space with high ceilings, the restaurant is next to a football clothing and merchandise shop called Ultra Football with the same owners and serves authentic Italian cuisine. We came here for dinner one night and will share our experience in this post.
To start off with, we ordered some aperol spritz which was the perfect summer drink.
For our appetisers, we shared the Zona Salumi Board with selection of cured meats including salami and prosciutto and some sourdough bread.
Our next appetiser was the Fried Calamari with salt and pepper seasoning. I loved this dish, the calamari was nice and crunchy on the outside and well seasoned.
For our mains, we tried the Gnocchi Datterino; home made gnocchi with succulent cherry tomatoes imported from Italy. This was one of my favourite dishes of the night, the texture of the gnocchi was amazing and the sauce was rich and delicious.
We then ordered three pizzas to share. All pizzas had an amazing crust, the kind that makes me actually enjoy eating it! The first was the Margherita pizza and it was simple but delicious with a generous amount of cheese and tomato.
The next pizza was Zuccotta with smashed pumpkin, buffalo mozzarella and sausage. I loved this pizza, pumpkin is not often put on pizzas but this was done well and the sausage was nice and tasty.
The last pizza was the San Daniele with tomato, fior di latte, prosciutto, buffalo mozzarella and basil. I also really enjoyed this pizza, the prosciutto was well complemented by the basila and tomato.
To balance out the carbs we tried a couple of the salads. The first was the Insalata Di Rucola with organic rocket, sliced pears, shaved parmesan cheese, walnuts and balsamic vinegar reduction. I am not a huge fan of rocket but my friend who enjoys it told me it was delicious.
The next was the Caprese salad with imported italian mozzarella with organic cherry tomatoes, fresh basil and oregano. I loved the mozzarella in this, it went nicely with the sweet cherry tomatoes, making for a refreshing summer salad.
Overall, Zona Azzuri is a great new opening in Alexandria with an authentic Italian menu and delicious dishes made with love by their team of talented and professional staff. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the hunt for good pizza and pasta!
Love At First Bite dined as a guest of Zona Azzuri and Rojo Consulting. All opinions are my own.
