Gibbon Street Cafe is a new cafe in Redfern that serves a range of brunch dishes in a open and spacious environment. I have been meaning to check this place out having heard good things about it so came for brunch on a weekend.
We ordered two dishes to share and could not resist ordering their Easter specials. The first dish we tried was their “Waffle on – About Easter” Belgian style waffles served with home made dark chocolate sauce, raspberry coulis, shredded coconut, egg yolk nest, easter eggs and fresh fruit. I liked this dish, the presentation was beautiful and the fresh fruit added a nice tartness that balance out the rich chocolate sauce however I thought the waffles were a bit dry.
Next we ordered the resurrection breakfast bowl with cream whipped mango and passionfruit, served with fresh fig, berries, mango and granola. This was a great and refreshing smoothie bowl, the mango was nice and light, with the berries adding extra fruity goodness. I would have preferred slightly more texture here, with more oats and granola for a crunch.
We also tried their Chocolate Chickshake milkshake, with salted caramel and dark chocolate thick shake served in an Easter Egg topped with whipped cream and mini chock eggs. THis was such a cute concept but I felt like it was chocolate overload and there was not a lot of milkshake in the actual egg and I would have preferred more however it tasted nice and not too sweet.
Overall, Gibbon Street cafe is a nice place for brunch and lunch. The Easter specials were presented nicely however I would love to come back and try their normal menu sometime. It’s worth visiting if you are in the area!
Love at First Bite dined as guests of Gibbon Street Cafe as part of a competition voucher. All opinions are my own.
