The Eat House Diner in Redfern is a quirky place for dinner and drinks with a modern Australian menu and exotic cocktails. We came here for dinner one night, keen to catch up with a group of foodie friends.
We ordered a round of cocktails to start off with. We chose the Mezcalocalypse, salty boy espresso martini, passionately basic, pomegranate mojito, lavender pisco sour, the spritz nipper. They were all delicious drinks, some were sweeter than others so we all chose based on our preferences.
For our dishes we ordered a bunch of items to share. The first was the Kataifi prawns with green papaya, coriander, red chilli, eschallot and fish sauce. This was a great dish, the prawns were nicely coated and crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside and the salad was nice and fresh, with the green papaya adding a sweet crunch.
The next dish was the Burrata and charred cos salad with house dried cherry tomato, radish, sumac and apple cider. I love burrata and this dish did not disappoint, the cheese was so nice and creamy and the apple cider added a nice sweet flavour, balanced out by the cherry tomato.
The next dish was the Patatas bravas with roasted chat potatoes tossed through a spicy roast cherry tomato sauce. This was delicious, the sauce was nice and rich and the potatoes were well roasted.
We then ordered the Charred pumpkin salad with fried goats feta, red quinoa, walnut, rocket, pomegranate dressing. I enjoyed this dish too, the fried goats feta was nice and rich and the walnut and pomegranate combination made for a healthy and tasty salad.
We then tried the Wild mushrooms with sweet potato puree and tuscan kale. This was simple but delicious, the mushrooms had good flavour and the sweet potato puree was done so well, I loved the flavours.
We then moved on to the Southern fried chicken with chilli butter sauce. This was our guilty pleasure, the chicken was crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside and the chilli butter sauce added a nice kick.
We also tried the Polenta chips with blue cheese sauce, the sauce was amazing, so rich and creamy and I usually do not like blue cheese but could not taste too much here.
Finally, we tried their BBQ pork ribs in smokey bbq sauce with cabbage and carrot. This was my favourite dish of the night, the ribs tender and fell off the bone and the sauce was so smokey and addictive.
Overall, The Eat House Diner is a great staple on the Redfern food scene, offering versatile dishes that everyone loves, with a killer drink menu to match. Definitely worth trying if you are in the area!
