Ryu is a new restaurant in Rushcutters Bay that serves premium Japanese food in a cosy space. The restaurant only seats about 20 people so make sure you get there early on popular nights to avoid waiting!
We ordered a special to start off the night, the Thinly sliced lached sashimi. I loved this dish, the sashimi was so fresh and because it was thinly sliced, it melted in my mouth.
Next we tried the Deluxe Nigiri sushi with salmon, kingfish, scallops, tuna, fish roe. There was so much variety on this platter and I really enjoyed the wasabi hidden in each bite, definitely added a kick to the nigiri. The sashimi on top was also so fresh and high quality.
For our mains we tried the Wagyu beef tenderloin toban yaki with vegetables. This was a great dish, the wagyu was cooked right in front of you hot pot style and I really enjoyed how tender and marbled it was.
Next we tried the Kami nabe hot pot with chicken, pork belly, mussels and vegetables with a tonkatsu miso base broth. This is one of my favourite hot pots, the ingredients inside were delicious and the miso base broth was so rich and creamy, it was the perfect winter warmer.
For dessert we finished with the Matcha jelly with coconut milk and brown sugar syrup. This was a great dessert, the matcha jelly was not too sweet so it was nicely balanced with the creamy coconut milk and brown sugar syrup.
Overall, Ryu Japanese restaurant is a gem of an opening, with high quality and fresh Japanese food including sashimi, sushi and hot pots, it’s definitely worth a try!
Love at First Bite dined as guests of Ryu. All opinions are my own.
