Sugar Rays is a new bar in Redfern that as a nice and cosy vintage feel. Its menu is newly created and has a great mixture of bar food and unique cocktails. We came here for a bite and drink one Friday night, keen to kick off our weekend.
For our cocktails we ordered the Rosamund with vodka, amaretto, shiraz, lemon and strawberry. This was an interesting drink, quite strong with lots of flavours so it is more of an acquired taste.
The second was the Money in the bank with bailey’s, white chocolate, cream and rose. This was delicious and tasted like dessert. I loved the baileys flavour with white chocolate adding a sweet touch to the drink.
For our food we tried their Pork belly puffs smoked on corn puffs, pickled fennel, red cabbage, basil dressing and aioli. I loved the crunch of the corn puffs while the pork belly was nice and tender.
Next we tried the Wagyu slider with double cheese, bacon onion butter and dill pickle on a milk bun. I loved how cheesey this was, it was very rich and decadent and the wagyu patty was cooked medium slightly pink in the centre which was perfect.
After this we tried the Duck slider with cheese, onion thyme jam butter and cranberry chutney on a milk bun. I loved the cranberry chutney, it went very well with the duck meat as it added a nice sweet touch.
For dessert we tried the Chocolate pannacotta with bourbon and pecans. This was another interesting dish, the bourbon layer on the top was very strong however it cut through the rich chocolate making for a great dessert with a twist.
Overall, Sugar Rays is a great bar in Redfern with a unique bar menu and cocktails. I love the old school vibe here, it makes for a bar where you can actually have a good conversation as its not too loud. Definitely worth a visit!
Love at First Bite dined as guests of Sugar Rays and Food Blogs Media. All opinions are my own.
