Santorini is a Greek restaurant in Darlinghurst that serves traditional and authentic Greek cuisine. They do many grilled seafood and meat dishes and the decor is made to feel like you have transported to Santorini. The owner is also very lovely and welcoming and we were keen to come here for dinner one night.
To start we ordered two cocktails, the Blue hawaii with coconut rum, and pineapple juice and the Cosmopolis with vodka, mastiha, watermelon and lime. Both were quite strong, with Greek alcohol to add a twist to the standard cocktail.
Our first entree was a platter of Grilled calamari and king prawn. I loved this dish, there was minimal sauce involved meaning the seafood retained its natural flavour and it was high quality and fresh.
Our second entree was the Saganaki cheese golden fried and flamed with ouzo. This flaming cheese was definitely the highlight of the night and put on quite a show. I loved how rich and decadent the cheese was.
We also shared a Trio of fish roe mousse, smokey eggplant and tzatziki dip and pita bread, the pita was best served warm with the dips lathered onto the bread, my favourite was the tzatziki, the combination of yoghurt, cucumber and mint was so refreshing.
We then ordered the classic Greek salad with cucumber, tomato, capsicum and feta cheese, this was delicious and healthy.
For our mains we ordered the Lamb shoulder marinated in garlic and lemon and cooked with paprika, tomatoes, potatoes and melted feta. I loved how tender the lamb was the flavours were very much infused into the potatoes.
We also tried the Mousaka with layers of potatoes, eggplant, beef mince, sauce and topped with bechamel. This is like a Greek lasagne, it was quite rich and hearty but delicious the beef sauce was rich and went well with the layers of cream and potatoes.
Lastly, we ended with some traditional Baklava and custard pastry dessert. I loved the nuttiness of the baklava with the syrup balanced out by the creamy custard.
Overall, Santorini is one of my favourite places in Sydney for authentic Greek food in a homely atmosphere, everything is well priced and service is fast and friendly. Definitely recommend!
Love at First Bite dined as a guest of the establishment and / or their representatives. All opinions are my own.
