Espresso on Sussex is cafe situated on Sussex Lane in the CBD and does a range of great dishes for suitable for takeaway weekday lunches as well an extensive dine in menu. I decided to pop in for a visit one lunch break, keen for some good food with my colleague.
To start off, we ordered their off the menu Brownie milkshake with chocolate milk, brownie ice cream sandwich, flakes and whipped cream. This was an insanely decadent dessert, the brownies were rich and gooey, just the way I like it and the chocolate milkshake went well with our savoury dishes.
My colleague ordered the Strawberries and cream milkshake, which was a less decadent but equally delicious shake with good strawberry flavour.
For our sweet dishes we ordered the Dragon fruit bowl: Pink pitaya, granola, chia seeds, toasted nuts, seasonal fruit. I loved this smoothie bowl, it was light and refreshing and packed with nutrition, the granola added a good crunch as well.
Next we ordered the French toast with maple bacon, ricotta, fresh fruit and berry compote. This was a great french toast, the brioche was nice and crispy and the ricotta added a creaminess while the fruit balanced out the sweet maple syrup.
For our savoury dishes we could not go past the burgers. We ordered the BBQ bacon burger with Premium beef patty, maple bacon, Jack Daniels sauce, served on a milk bun. This was my favourite burger, the beef patty was tender and juicy and the sauce was so addictive.
We also tried the Jamaican Jerk burger with Grilled chicken, baby rocket, grilled pineapple, lime mayo on milk bun. The chicken was nice and tender and the sauce was spicy, which is good if you can handle spice! I thought the side of nachos was a great addition and added a unique touch to the dishes, the salsa was great and the chips were nice and crunchy.
Overall, Espresso on Sussex is the perfect place to have a weekday lunch with your colleagues, the menu is nice and extensive and well priced and they do a great range of takeaway dishes as well for the time poor!
