Ho Jiak is a Malaysian restaurant in Haymarket that has recently opened, their first branch is in Strathfield. It serves authentic street food style Malaysian food in a Hawker environment. I had heard great things about this place so came to check it out one day for lunch.

To start off, we ordered the Thai milk tea and lemon iced tea. These were delicious, the milk tea was not too sweet and so refreshing on a hot summer’s day and the lemon iced tea was sweeter but just as refreshing.

Next we ordered a few dishes to share. The first dish was the classic Nasi Goreng Wagyu- fried rice served with egg and wagyu steak. I loved this dish, the wagyu steak was perfectly cooked medium rare and the fried rice had generous ingredients in it and just the right amount of spice.

Next we ordered some veggies to be healthy, the Stir fried long beans with minced pork and chinese mushrooms. This was a great dish, the minced pork and chinese mushrooms added good flavour to the beans which were well cooked.

We also ordered their classic Char Koay Teow spicy stir fried noodles with king prawn. I am a huge fan of this noodle dish and it did not disappoint, though I am not good at handling spicy food and this was quite spicy! The king prawns were huge and tender and the noodles were delicious.

Finally, we ordered their Tasting platter with lamb cutlets, curry chicken, fish fillet and king prawns served with sambal sauce. This was such an impressive platter and had great variety, all the meat was cooked well and went perfectly with the spicy sauce.

Finally, we finished the meal with dessert and ordered the Teh Tarik affogato- house made teh tarik ice cream served with kopi. I loved this dessert, the milk tea ice cream flavour was strong and went well with the affogato.

Overall, Ho Jiak is a great Malaysian restaurant that has friendly, fast service and high quality, authentic dishes. Be sure to visit their new branch in Haymarket or existing branch in Strathfield and check it out!
